|~ A post on Duke's facebook a week before the shooting|
On December 14th, 2010. Clay Allen Duke fired 4 shots in the Panama City Bay District School Board before turning the gun on himself. No one was injured and the only death was the perpetrator himself.
Clay Allen Duke (November 24th, 1954 - December 14th, 2010) was a 56 year old man from Florida who was unemployed at the time and suffering from bipolar disorder with a known criminal record.
Duke was angry at the school board's decision of firing his wife from her teaching job, leaving both of them unemployed.
Duke's criminal background includes an arrest in 1999/2000 for attempting ambush with a rifle and an arrest for aggravated stalking. Clay was sentenced to 5 years in prison in 2000, he was released in January 2004, at which point he became a licensed massage therapist.
At 2:00 pm on December 14th, 2010, Duke stood up and spray painted on the wall "The V for Vendetta" logo. He then pulled out a semiautomatic pistol and pointed it towards the crowd and board members. Clay let the audience members and all females leave. A female tried to knock out the gun from his hand with her purse but she was subdued by him which prompted Duke to let her go unharmed.
Duke went on a rant discussing his frustration of his wife being fired from her job while the superintendent tried to calm the shooter. Duke then pointed the gun at the superintendent and fired a shot but missed. Duke then shot 3 more times in the direction of the board members but all those shots missed aswell.
Duke then was shot once in the back by the security guard which prompted Duke to fall to the floor where he pointed the gun at his head and committed suicide.
Stated in a Facebook post, "Duke planned to die in the attack"
