  • April 3 - Nasim Najafi Aghdam perpetrates a mass shooting at YouTube's headquarters in San Bruno, California, injuring 4 people before committing suicide.

  • April 23 - Alek Minassian drives a van into a crowd of people in Toronto, killing 10 people and injuring 16.

  • May 10 - Mahathir Mohamad is elected Prime Minister of Malaysia for the second time, succeeding Najib Razak.
  • May 18 - Dimitrios Pagourtzis kills 8 students and 2 teachers and injures 13 others as part of the Santa Fe High School Shooting in Santa Fe, Texas.
  • June 18 - XXXTentacion is shot to death after a group of four people mugged him. The four people in question are Dedrick Williams, Michael Boatwright, Robert Allen, and Trayvon Newsome.

  • August 26 - David Katz commits the Jacksonville Landing shooting during a Madden NFL tournament, killing 2 people and injuring 10 others.
  • September 1 - Suge Knight is sentenced to 28 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter in regard to a 2015 hit-and-run attack.
  • September 6 - Amber Guyger murders African-American man Botham Jean when she accidently walks into his apartment, mistaking it for her own and believing him to be an intruder.
  • September 7 - Joe Exotic is indicted on eight counts of violating the Lacey Act by falsifying wildlife records, and on nine counts of violating the Endangered Species Act by killing five tigers and for selling tigers across state lines, as well as one count of conspiracy and one count of attempted murder as part of a plot to kill his rival Carole Baskin.
  • September 25 - Bill Cosby is sentenced to 3 to 10 years in state prison for sexual assault.
  • October 2 - Saudi dissident and journalist Jamal Khashoggi is assassinated inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey by an elite death squad known as "Tiger Squad".
  • October 15 - 13-year old Jayme Closs is kidnapped from her home in Barron, Wisconsin by 20-year old Jake Patterson, who also murders her parents, James and Denise Closs.
  • October 27 - Robert Bowers kills 11 and injures 6 in a shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
